Sunburned

Here are a few Natural Remedies

Caution! A third degree burn should be treated by a medical team immediately.

You can treat some second degree burns and most first degree burns using home remedies* to reduce the pain and discomfort.

1. Drink plenty of water to reduce dehydration.

2. Apply cool water to the burned area. Take a cool bath and add oatmeal, cornstarch or baking soda to sooth the skin.

3. Make a paste of cornstarch or baking soda to apply to the affected areas.

4. Ice cold whole milk or plain yogurt can be applied directly to the skin or soak towels in the milk or yogurt and wrap the affected areas.

5. Smooth aloe vera straight from an aloe vera plant or a commercial aloe vera product. Check the list of ingredients. Be sure there is no alcohol or other ingredient that may sting.

6. Cucumbers, strawberries or raw potatoes can be applied to the skin.

7. Cooled, damp tea bags can be used on a first degree burn. Or brew tea, cool and soak towels in the tea and apply to the affected area.

These remedies should not be used on third degree burns or not skin that is broken or otherwise compromised.
