If you seem to be a bit off balance or are experiencing discomfort on the bottom of your feet, you might want to try stretching out the muscles in your calves. Remember the old song that says the hip bone is connected to the leg bone? The same is true of our muscles. If there is an imbalance in the leg muscles it will be reflected in our hips and shoulders. Maintaining good balance is very important especially if we are not as active as we use to be.
Here is a video to show you a safe way to accomplish the goal of more flexibility and better balance. You may find these stretches will help plantar discomfort also.
Some falls can be prevented by keep our amazing bodies flexible!
If you decide to do these stretches for your legs, please do it mindfully, being aware of where the muscles are being affected. Please, do the stretches slowly. It will take time to get the muscles to be more flexible. One needs to do these stretches many time gently. There is no benefit in doing them fast or to cause discomfort or pain. One can cause more problems to the legs and knees than resolving the tight muscle concerns.
